Bible Text (Scroll to Verse)  [Copy]
But Job answered and said,
Oh that my grief were thoroughly weighed, and my calamity laid in the balances together!
For now it would be heavier than the sand of the sea: therefore my words are swallowed up.
For the arrows of the Almighty [are] within me, their poison drinks up my spirit: the terrors of God set themselves in array against me.
Does the wild ass bray when he has grass? or does the ox low over his fodder?
Can that which is tasteless be eaten without salt? or is there [any] taste in the white of an egg?
I refuse to touch food that makes me sick.
Oh that I might have my wish; and that God would grant [me] the thing that I long for!
And that God would be pleased to destroy me; that he would let loose his hand, and cut me off!
Then I would still have comfort; yes, I would harden myself in sorrow: let him not spare; for I have not concealed the words of the Holy One.
What [is] my strength, that I should hope? and what [is] my future hope, that I should prolong my life?
[Is] my strength the strength of stones? or [is] my flesh of brass?
[Is] my help not in me? But wisdom is driven away from me.
To him that is afflicted pity [should be showed] from his friend; but he forsakes the fear of the Almighty.
My brothers have dealt deceitfully as a brook, [and] as the stream of brooks they pass away;
Which are dark because of the ice, [and] in which the snow is hidden:
As soon as they grow warm, they vanish: when it is hot, they are evaporate away from their place.
Their paths wind their way; they go to the wilderness and vanish.
The travellers of Tema looked, the caravans of Sheba waited eagerly for them.
They were ashamed because they were confident; they came there, and were embarrassed.
For now you are of no use; you see [my] dismay, and you are afraid.
Did I ask you to give me anything? or, Pay a ransom for me from your wealth?
Or, Deliver me from the enemy's hand? or, Rescue me from the hand of the mighty?
Teach me, and I will hold my tongue: and cause me to understand how I have erred.
How painful are right words! but what does your arguing prove?
Do you plan to correct my words, and treat the talk of one that is in despair as wind?
Yes, you cast lots for the fatherless, and you trade your friend in.
Now therefore are you prepared to look me in the face to see if I am lying?
Back off please, do not be unjust; yes, reconsider, my integrity stands.
Is there iniquity in my tongue? My taste buds do not detect anything bad.
