Bible Text  (Scroll to Verse)  [Copy]  [Read Bible Only]

1 The elder to the well loved Gaius, whom I love in the truth.
2 Beloved, I want you to continually be made to flourish in all things and to be continually in good health, to the same degree that your soul is continually being made to florish.
It is important to note that the passive voice is used here. This implies that prosperity comes as a result of some outward action. The same happens with health. We are thus made to prosper and gain health by the Lord. All of this begins first in the soul.
- PROVISION

3 For I rejoiced greatly, when the brothers came and testified of the truth that is in you, since you are walking in the truth.
4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in truth.
John was considered a spiritual father.
- SPIRITUAL PARENTING

5 Beloved, you are faithful in doing the things you do to the brothers, and to strangers;
6 Who have borne witness of your [agape] love before the church: whom if you promote on their journey in a godly way, you will do well:
- AGAPE - DIVINE LOVE
7 Because on behalf of his name they went out, taking nothing from the Gentiles.
8 We therefore ought to receive such [people], that we might be co-workers of the truth.
9 I wrote to the church: but Diotrephes, who loves to have the preeminence among them, does not receive us.
- PRIDE
10 Therefore, if I come, I will remember the things that he does, criticising us with malicious words: and not content with that, he himself will not receive the brothers either, and forbids those that want to, and casts [them] out of the church.
11 Beloved, do not imitate that which is evil, but that which is good. He who does [what is] good is of God: but he who does [what is] evil has not seen God.
12 Demetrius has a good reputation with everyone, and from the truth itself: yes, and we [also] are witnesses; and you know that our testimony is true.
13 I had many things to write, but I do not want to write to you with ink and pen:
14 But I trust I will shortly see you, and we will speak face to face. Peace [be] to you. [Our] friends salute you. Greet the friends by name.
