PROBLEMS OR ISSUES THIS BOOK IS ADDRESSING:
John criticized a false teacher in this very brief letter. He even called him by name-Diotrephes. He accused
the man of having a big ego and being a troublemaker. The letter shows us that even when the church was
less than 50 years old, it had the same types of problems we have today with divisions and dishonesty.
MOST FAMOUS VERSES:
I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth. 3 John 1:4
Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. 3 John 1:11
Important Points about the Book:
• This book is a brief letter to two people named Gaius and Demetrius. They had been faithfully
speaking the truth. John mentions having sent a previous letter, one that is not in our Bible.
However, this evil Diotrephes rejected the letter out of pride. He may have destroyed it and
refused to let people be encouraged by John's message. But John is not disheartened.
