Bible Text (Scroll to Verse)  [Copy]
Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea during the reign of Herod the king, some wise men came from the east to Jerusalem,
Saying, Where is the one that was born to be King of the Jews? for we saw his star in the east, and have come to worship him.
When Herod the king heard about this, he was upset, and all Jerusalem with him.
And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he continued to ask them where Christ was going to be born.
And they said to him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for this is what was written by the prophet,
And you Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are not insignificant amongst the chief cities of Judah: for out of you there will come a leader, that will shepherd my people Israel.
Then Herod, when he had privately called for the wise men, investigated accurately with them, how long ago [chronos] the star started shining.

And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and make an accurate search for the young child; and when you have found him, give me a full report, so that I can come and worship him also.
After hearing the king, they continued their journey; and the star, which they had seen in the east, went ahead of them, until it came to a stop and stood over where the young child was.
This was not just another star. It was low enough to identify the house where Jesus was
When they saw the star, they were overwhelmed with joy.
And when they arrived at the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented to him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.
This was nearly two years since Jesus birth, so he was now a toddler and not a bsby.
But having been divinely instructed through a dream, that they should not go back to Herod, they left for their own country by another route.
And when they had left, the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, Get up, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and remain there until I tell you otherwise: for Herod plans to search for the young child to destroy him.
Today God can speak to us through His Spirit within. But then he had to use an angel to bring a message.
So having been woken up, he took the young child and his mother in the middle of the night, and left for Egypt:
And they were there until the death of Herod: so that it could be fulfilled what was spoken from the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt I have called my son.
Then Herod, when he realized that he had been deceived by the wise men, was seething mad, and gave orders to kill all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all its boundaries, from two years old and under, according to the [chronos] time that he had accurately determined from the wise men.

Then it was fulfilled what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying,
In Ramah a voice was heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and not wanting to be comforted, because they are no more.
But after Herod had died, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,
Saying, Get up, and take the young child and his mother, and leave for the land of Israel: for those who sought the young child's [psuche] life are dead.

And he awoke, and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.
But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning in Judaea in the place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there: nevertheless, being warned by God in a dream, he made a detour into the area of Galilee:
And he came and lived in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled what was spoken by the prophets, He will be called a Nazarene.
