1 In those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea,
2 And saying, Repent : for the kingdom of heaven is approaching.
3 For this is the One that was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah, saying, The voice of one crying out in the desert, Prepare the way for the Lord, make his paths level and straight.
4 And John had clothing of camel's hair, and a leather belt around his waist; and his food was locusts and wild honey.
5 Then the whole of Jerusalem, and Judaea, and all of the region around Jordan went out to him,
6 And were baptized by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins.
7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said to them, You brood of vipers, who has warned you to flee from the punishment [orge] that is coming?
8 Therefore produce fruits that are suitable for repentance:
9 And do not think you can say within yourselves, We have Abraham as [our] father: because let me tell you, God could raise up descendants for Abraham from these stones.
10 And now the axe is already hovering over the root of the trees: therefore every tree that does not bring forth good fruit is cut down, and thrown into the fire.
11 I am certainly immersing you in water, pointing to repentance: but the One that is coming after me is more powerful than me, whose shoes I am not capable of wearing: he will immerse you in the Holy Spirit, and fire:
12 Whose winnowing shovel is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing floor, and gather his wheat into the barns; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.
13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to Jordan to John, to be baptized by him.
14 But John tried to deter him, saying, I need to be baptized by you, but you are coming to me?
15 But Jesus responded and said to him, Permit it for now: for in this way it is fitting for us to complete everything that is right. Then he allowed him.
16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up immediately out of the water: and the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and coming upon him:
 - SPIRIT OF GOD
17 And a voice from heaven, saying, This is my dearly beloved Son, in whom I take great pleasure.
