Bible Text  (Scroll to Verse)  [Copy]

The words of Agur the son of Jakeh, [namely] the prophecy: the man spoke to Ithiel, to Ithiel and Ucal,
Surely I [am] more ignorant than [any] man, and do not have the understanding of a man.
I neither learned wisdom, nor have the knowledge of the holy.
Who has ascended up into heaven, or descended? who has gathered the wind in his fists? who has bound the waters in a garment? who has established all the ends of the earth? what [is] his name, and what [is] his son's name, if you know it?
Every word of God [is] pure: he [is] a shield to those that put their trust in him.
Do not add to his words, lest he reprove you, and you be found a liar.
Two [things] I have required of you; do not deny me [them] before I die:
Remove far from me deception and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food [that is] suitable for me:
- WAY OF HEALTH
Lest I be full, and deny [you], and say, Who [is] the LORD [Yahweh]? or lest I be poor, and steal, and dishonor the name of my God.
Accuse not a servant to his master, lest he curse you, and you be found guilty.
[There is] a generation [that] curses their father, and does not bless their mother.
[There is] a generation [that are] pure in their own eyes, and [yet] are not purged of their impurity.
[There is] a generation, O how lofty are their eyes! and their eyelids are lifted up.
[There is] a generation, whose teeth [are as] swords, and their jaw teeth [like] knives, to devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from [amongst] men.
The leech has two daughters, [crying], Give, give. There are three [things that] are never satisfied, [yes], four [things] do not say, [It is] enough:
The grave; and the barren womb; the earth [that] is not filled with water; and the fire [that] does not say, [It is] enough.
The eye [that] mocks at [his] father, and despises to obey [his] mother, the ravens of the valley will pick it out, and the young eagles will eat it.
There are three [things that] are too wonderful for me, yes, four which I do not know:
The way of an eagle in the air; the way of a serpent upon a rock; the way of a ship in the midst of the sea; and the way of a man with a young woman.
Thus [is] the way of an adulterous woman; she eats, and wipes her mouth, and says, I have done nothing wrong.
For three [things] the earth is stirred up, and for four [that] it cannot tolerate:
For a servant when he reigns; and a fool when he is full of food;
For a hateful [woman] when she is married; and a servant girl that is heir to her mistress.
There are four [things which are] little upon the earth, but they [are] exceedingly wise:
The ants [are] a people not strong, yet they prepare their food in the summer;
The rock rabbits are a feeble group, yet make they their houses in the rocks;
The locusts have no king, yet they all go out by rank;
The lizard can be caught by hand, yet it is in kings' palaces.
There are three [things] which operate efficiently, yes, four look good in action:
A lion [which is] strongest among beasts, and does not turn away for anything;
A greyhound; a male goat also; and a king, against whom [there is] no rising up.
If you have done foolishly in exalting yourself, or if you have thought evil, [lay] your hand on your mouth.
Surely the churning of milk produces butter, and the wringing of the nose produces blood: so the forcing of wrath produces strife.
