The words of king Lemuel, the prophecy that his mother taught him.
Why! my son? Why! son of my womb? Why! son of my vow?
Do not pour out your resources on women, nor your way of living on what destroys kings.
Kings should not, O Lemuel, kings should not drink wine; nor should rulers drink spirits:
Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgement of any of the afflicted.
Give strong drink to he that is ready to perish, and wine to those that have heavy hearts.
Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.
Open your mouth for the speechless and [speak up for] the cause of all those that are destined for destruction.
Open your mouth, judge fairly, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.
Who can find a resourceful woman? for her value is far greater than that of rubies.
The heart of her husband is secure in her, so that he will have no shortage of possessions.
She will be good to him and not unkind or hurtful every day of her life.
She goes and finds wool and linen, and enjoys working with her hands.
She is like a trader's ships; she imports food from far off places.
She also gets up during the night, and gives food to her family, and a what is required for her servant girls.
She sets her mind on a piece of land, and takes charge of it: with the work of her hands she plants a vineyard.
She stands boldly and remains firm.
She senses that her business is doing well: she works late at night.
She gets her hands working in spinning and weaving.
She stretches out her hand to the poor; yes, she reaches out her hands to the needy.
She is not afraid of the snow for her family: for all her family [are] clothed with scarlet.
She makes herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing [is] silk and purple.
Her husband is known in the gates, where he sits among the elders of the land.
She makes fine linen, and sells [it]; and delivers girdles to the merchant.
Strength and honor [are] her clothing; and she will rejoice in time to come.
She opens her mouth with wisdom; and on her tongue [is] the law of kindness.
She takes good care of her family's affairs, and does not eat the bread of idleness.
Her children rise up, and call her blessed; her husband [also], and he praises her.
Many daughters have done valiantly, but you are greater than all of them.
Charm [is] deceitful, and beauty [is] vain: [but] a woman [that] fears the LORD [Yahweh], she will be praised.
Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.
