Bible Text  (Scroll to Verse)  [Copy]

From where do strife and conflict [originate] among you? [do they] not come from your cravings that stir in your members?
You crave, and do not have: you kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: you fight and strive, yet you do not have, because you do not ask.
You ask, and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, that you can use it to satisfy your cravings.
You adulterers and adulteresses, do you not know that the friendship of the world is opposed to God? whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
Do you think that the scripture says for nothing, The spirit that dwells in us desires to envy?
But he gives more grace. Therefore he says, God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse [your] hands, [you] sinners; and purify [your] hearts, [you] double minded.
Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and [your] joy to heaviness.
Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he will lift you up.
Do not speak evil one of another, brothers. He that speaks evil of [his] brother, and judges his brother, speaks evil of the law, and judges the law: but if you judge the law, you are not a practiser of the law, but a judge.
There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who are you that judges another?
Come on now, you that say, To day or tomorrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and make a profit:
Whereas you do not know what [will happen] tomorrow. For what [is] your [zoe] life? It is just a vapour, that appears for a short [period of] time, and then vanishes away.
Rather you [ought] to say, If the Lord wants, we will live, and do this, or that.
But now you revel in your bragging: all such boasting is evil.
Therefore to him that knows to do good, and does not do it, to him it is sin.
