The poor is hated even by his own neighbor: but the rich [has] many friends.

He that oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker: but he that honors him has mercy on the poor.

The poor man speaks in appeals; but the wealthy man responds with strength.

All the brothers of the poor hate him: how much more do his friends desert him? Though he runs after them with promises they ignore him.

The sluggard will not plough because of the cold; [therefore] he will beg in the harvest, and [have] nothing.

He that oppresses the poor to increase his [riches, and] he that gives to the rich, [will] surely [come] to poverty.

For the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty: and drowsiness will clothe [a man] with rags.
