BOOK #24 AUTHOR: JOHN THE APOSTLE WRITTEN: 90-95 AD Old Testament: 39 Books New Testament: 27 Book 24 CLAIMS TO FAME: The only book in the Bible that is a letter written to a woman PROBLEMS OR ISSUES THIS BOOK IS ADDRESSING: 1 John was written to combat false teachings called "Gnosticism." In 2 John, he is addressing the same issue but not in as much detail. The tone suggests that John is writing a letter to someone who wrote to him first. He is encouraging that woman in a general way, saying he hopes to see her soon and give her details in person. MOST FAMOUS VERSES: And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love. 2 John 1:6 Many deceivers, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh, have gone out into the wo Any such person is the deceiver and the antichrist. 2 John 1:7 Important points about the Book: Many scholars have tried to symbolize this letter. John clearly states three times that it is to a "chosen lady.” Some think that John would not have any reason write to a woman, and therefore they say it is a church. However, it would be in John's kind and gentle nature to write to anyone who had written to him. This short, one-chapter book offers great encouragement to walk in the light and to love one another, even when it is hard.
