Bible Text  (Scroll to Verse)  [Copy]  [Read Bible Only]

And seeing the crowds, he went up into a mountain: and when he was seated, his disciples came to him:
And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,
Happy [are] the poor in spirit: for the kingdom of heaven is theirs.
Happy [are] those who are mourning: for they will be consoled.
Happy [are] those with a gentle spirit: for they will inherit the earth.
Happy [are] those who are hungering after and thirsting for the right things: for they will be satisfied.
Happy [are] the merciful: for they will obtain mercy.
Happy [are] the pure in heart: for they will see God.
Happy [are] the peacemakers: for they will be called the children of God.
Happy [are] those who are persecuted because of righteousness: for the kingdom of heaven is theirs.
Happy are you, when you have been taunted and persecuted, and all kinds of bad things are said against you falsely because of Me.
Rejoice, and be exceedingly glad: for great [is] your reward in heaven: for that is how they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
- JOY
You are the salt of the earth: but if the salt has become tasteless, with what can it be seasoned? It is no longer good for anything, but to be thrown out, and trampled under foot by people.
- INFLUENCE
You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.
Neither do people light a lamp, and put it under a measuring utensil, but on a lamp stand; and it gives light to all that are in the house.
Let your light shine like this before others, that they may see your good deeds, and give honor to your Father who is in heaven.
- TESTIMONY
Do not think not that I have come to demolish the law, or the prophets: I have not come to demolish, but to complete.
For truly I say to you, Until heaven and earth pass away, neither one dot nor one dash will ever be bypassed from the law, until all is fulfilled.
Whoever therefore will break one of these least commandments, and will teach men so, he will be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whoever will do and teach [them], will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
For I say to you, That unless your righteousness exceeds [the righteousness] of the scribes and Pharisees, you will under no circumstances [double negative] enter into the kingdom of heaven.
- RIGHTEOUSNESS
You have heard that it was said originally, You will not kill; and whoever will kill will be in danger of the judgment:
But I say to you, That whoever is angry with his brother without a cause will be in danger of the judgment: and whoever will say to his brother, You moron, will be in danger of the council: but whoever will say, You fool, will be in danger of the fire of Gehenna [hell].
- LAW OF JUDGEMENT
Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you;
Leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way; first be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.
Make peace speedily with someone who is against you, while you are interacting with them; so that your opponent does not hand you over to the judge, and the judge does not hand you over to the law enforcement officer, and you are thrown into prison.
Truly I say to you, You will by no means come out from there, until you have paid the last penny.
You have heard that it was said originally, You will not commit adultery:
But I say to you, That whoever looks on a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart.
- ADULTERY - LUST
And if your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out, and throw it away: for it is better for you that one of your bodily members are lost than for your whole body to be thrown into the fire of judgment [Gehenna].
- RADICAL AMPUTATION
And if your right hand offends you, cut it off, and cast [it] from you: for it is profitable for you that one of your members should perish, and not [that] your whole body should be cast into hell [Gehenna].
It has been said, Whoever will put away his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce:
But I say to you, That whoever will put away his wife, except for the reason of fornication, causes her to commit adultery: and whoever will marry her that is divorced commits adultery.
Marital unfaithfulness is the one legal case for divorce. But there are other circumstances also that can be applied.
- DIVORCE

Again, you have heard that it has been said originally, You will not go back on promises made under oath, but will fulfil your oaths to the Lord:
But I say to you, Do not swear at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne:
Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King.
Neither should you swear by your head, because you cannot make one hair white or black.
But let your communication be, Yes, yes; No, no: for whatever is more than these originates from evil.
You have heard that it has been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:
But I say to you, That you do not resist evil: but whoever should strike you on your right cheek, turn to him the other also.
And if any man wants to sue you at law, and take away your jacket, let him have [your] shirt also.
And whoever will compel you to go a mile, go two with him.
- SUCCESS
Give to the one that asks of you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.
- SUCCESS
You have heard that it has been said, You will love your neighbor, and hate your enemy.
But I say to you, Love your enemies, bless those that curse you, do good to those that hate you, and pray for those who insult you, and persecute you;
That you may be the children of your Father who is in heaven: for he makes his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.
For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the publicans do the same?
And if you greet your brothers only, what are you doing more [than others]? Do not even the publicans do so?
You [must] therefore be perfect [mature and complete], just as your Father who is in heaven is perfect [mature and complete].
