And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and all about how he had killed all the prophets with the sword.
Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, May the gods do the same to me, and even more, if I do not make your life like the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time.
And when he saw [that], he got up and ran for his life, and came to Beersheba, which [belongs] to Judah, and left his servant there.
But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he asked for himself that he would die; and said, It is enough; now, O LORD [Yahweh], take away my life; for I [am] no better than my fathers.
And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, an angel came and touched him, and said to him, Wakeup [and] eat.

And he looked, and, saw that, [there was] a cake baked on the coals, and a jug of water at his head. And he ate and drank, and lay down again.
And the angel of the LORD [Yahweh] came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Wakeup [and] eat; because the journey [is] too much for you.
And he awoke, and ate and drank, and went on the strength of that food forty days and forty nights to Horeb the mount of God.
And he came there to a cave, and stayed there; and, the word of the LORD [Yahweh] [came] to him, and he said to him, What are you doing here, Elijah?
And he said, I have been very zealous for the LORD [Yahweh] God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken your covenant, thrown down your altars, and killed your prophets with the sword; and I, just I, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.
And he said, Go out, and stand on the mountain before the LORD [Yahweh]. And the LORD [Yahweh] passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains, and broke in pieces the rocks before the LORD [Yahweh]; [but] the LORD [Yahweh] [was] not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; [but] the LORD [Yahweh] [was] not in the earthquake:
And after the earthquake a fire; [but] the LORD [Yahweh] [was] not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.
And when Elijah heard [it], he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out, and stood at the entrance of the cave. And a voice came to him and said, What are you doing here, Elijah?
And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD [Yahweh] God of hosts: because the children of Israel have forsaken your covenant, thrown down your altars, and killed your prophets with the sword; and I, just I alone, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.
And the LORD [Yahweh] said to him, Go, return on your way to the wilderness of Damascus: and when you come, anoint Hazael [to be] king over Syria:
And Jehu the son of Nimshi you will anoint as king over Israel: and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abelmeholah you will anoint as prophet in your place.
And it will come to pass, [that] he that escapes the sword of Hazael will Jehu slay: and he that escapes from the sword of Jehu will Elisha slay.
Yet I have left [myself] seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed to Baal, and every mouth which has not kissed him.
So he departed from there, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who [was] plowing [with] twelve yoke [of oxen] before him, and he with the twelfth: and Elijah passed by him, and cast his mantle upon him.
And he left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and said, Let me, I pray you, kiss my father and my mother, and [then] I will follow you. And he said to him, Go back again: for what have I done to you?
And he returned back from him, and took a yoke of oxen, and slew them, and boiled their flesh with the instruments of the oxen, and gave to the people, and they ate. Then he arose, and went after Elijah, and ministered to him.
