Bible Text  (Scroll to Verse)  [Copy]

And the child Samuel ministered to the LORD [Yahweh] before Eli. The word of the LORD [Yahweh] was valued highly in those days; since there was no outburst of visions taking place.
At that time, Eli [had] gone to lie down, his eyesight having started to fade with age so that he could barely see any more;
And while the lamp of God was still burning in the temple of the LORD [Yahweh], where the ark of God [was], Samuel also having gone to lie down to sleep;
The LORD [Yahweh] called Samuel: and he replied, Here I am.
He ran to Eli, and said, Here I [am], you called me. Eli said, I did not call you, go lie down again. So he went back to bed.
Then the LORD [Yahweh] called again, Samuel. And Samuel rose up and went to Eli, and said, Here I am; you called me. But he replied once more, I did not call you, my son; go back to sleep.
Now Samuel had not yet come to know the LORD [Yahweh], and the word of the LORD [Yahweh] had not been revealed to him yet.
So when the LORD [Yahweh] called Samuel again the third time, he rose up again and went to Eli, saying, Here I am; you called me. Then Eli realized that the LORD [Yahweh] had called the child.
So Eli said to Samuel, Go, lie down: and if he calls you, then you should say, Speak, LORD [Yahweh]; your servant is listening. So Samuel went to lay down in his room.
And the LORD [Yahweh] came, and stood, and called just like before, Samuel, Samuel. This time Samuel answered, Speak; your servant is listening.
And the LORD [Yahweh] said to Samuel, I am going to do something in Israel, which will cause the ears of everyone who hears it to quake in fear.
At that time I will carry out against Eli everything that I have spoken concerning his household: from start to finish.
For I have told him that I will judge his household for ever for the sin that he knows about; because his sons opened the door to a curse, and he did not block it.
And therefore I have sworn to the house of Eli, that the iniquity of Eli's house will not be purged with sacrifice nor offering for ever.
And Samuel lay until the morning, and opened the doors of the house of the LORD [Yahweh]. And Samuel was afraid to tell Eli the vision.
Then Eli called Samuel, and said, Samuel, my son. And he answered, Here I [am].
And he said, What [is] the thing that [the LORD [Yahweh]] has said to you? I pray you hide [it] not from me: God do so to you, and more also, if you hide [any] thing from me of all the things that he said to you.
And Samuel told him everything, and hid nothing from him. And he said, It [is] the LORD [Yahweh]: let him do what seems good to Him.
And Samuel grew, and the LORD [Yahweh] was with him, and let none of his words fall to the ground.
And all Israel from Dan even to Beersheba knew that Samuel [was] established [to be] a prophet of the LORD [Yahweh].
And the LORD [Yahweh] appeared again in Shiloh: for the LORD [Yahweh] revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the word of the LORD [Yahweh].
