Bible Text  (Scroll to Verse)  [Copy]

Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
Receive us; we have wronged no man, we have corrupted no man, we have defrauded no man.
I speak not [this] to condemn [you]: for I have said before, that you are in our hearts to die and live with [you].
Great [is] my boldness of speech toward you, great [is] my glorying of you: I am filled with comfort, I am exceeding joyful in all our tribulation.
For, when we arrived in Macedonia, our bodies had no relief, but we were being crushed from all sides; conflicts on the outside, fears within.
Nevertheless God, that comforts those that are cast down, comforted us by the coming of Titus;
And not by his coming only, but by the consolation with which he was comforted in you, when he told us your earnest desire, your mourning, your fervent mind toward me; so that I rejoiced the more.
For though I offended you with my letter, I do not regret it, though I did have second thoughts about it: for I can see that this letter upset you, even though it was only for a short time.
Now I am glad, not because you were grieved, but that you were grieved enough to change your way of thinking: for you were grieved under the influence of God, so that you would not be hurt by us in any way.
For the God kind of sorrow accomplishes a change of thinking leading to deliverance and victory without any regrets: but the sorrow of the world results in death.
Take a look at what happened when you were sorry God's way, see what earnestness it produced in you, what diligence, what indignation, what reverence, what longing, what zeal, what vengeance! In everything you have pulled yourself together to show your innocence in this matter.
So even though I wrote to you, it was neither for the sake of the one who did wrong, nor for the one who suffered the wrong, but so that our earnest care for you in the presence of God might become visible to you.
Therefore we were encouraged as a result of your encouragement, and we were even happier with the gladness of Titus, because he received spiritual refreshment from all of you.
So I am not ashamed about whatever we bragged to him about you; because just as everything we told you was true, so also our bragging about Titus proved to be true.
And his inward affection is more abundant toward you, whilst he remembers the obedience of you all, how with fear and trembling you received him.
I rejoice therefore that I have confidence in you in all [things].
