1 Now concerning spiritual [gifts], brothers, I do not want you to be ignorant. 2 You know that you were Gentiles, carried away towards these dumb idols, in the way you were being led. 3 Therefore I am letting you know, that no one speaking through the Spirit of God can say 'curse [anathema] Jesus': and no one can say 'Lord Jesus', except through the [agency of] Holy Spirit. 4 Now there are distinct kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 And there are distinct kinds of ministries, but the same Lord. 6 And there are distinct [modes of] operation, but it is the same God that operates all [of them] in all [cases]. 7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to everyone so that they can benefit together from it. 8 For to one is given through the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit; 9 To another faith through the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; 10 To another the performing of miracles; to another prophecy; to another distinguishing of spirits; to another [different] kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: 11 And all these are operated by exactly the same Spirit, distributing to everyone individually as He desires. 12 For as the body is a single unit, and has many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, make up one body: so also [is] Christ. 13 For through one Spirit we have all been baptised into one body, whether [we are] Jews or Gentiles, whether [we are] slaves or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. 14 For the body is not one member, but many. 15 If the foot should say, Because I am not the hand, I am not [part] of the body; is it therefore not [part] of the body? 16 And if the ear should say, Because I am not the eye, I am not [part] of the body; is it therefore not [part] of the body? 17 If the whole body [were] an eye, where [would] the hearing [be]? If the whole [were] hearing, where [would] the smelling [be]? 18 But now God has set the members every one of them in the body, as it has pleased him. 19 And if they were all one member, where [would] the body [be]? 20 But now [there are] many members, yet only one body. 21 And the eye cannot say to the hand, I have no need of you: nor [can] the head [say] to the feet, I have no need of you. 22 No, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more weak, are necessary: 23 And those [members] of the body, which we think to be less important, on these we place far greater importance; and our unattractive [parts] have far greater attraction. 24 For our attractive [parts] do not need [anything]: but God has combined the body together, having given far greater importance to that [part] which was lacking: 25 That there should be no division in the body; but [that] the members should have the same care for one another. 26 And if one member suffers, all the members suffer together; or [if] one member is honored, all the members rejoice together. 27 Now you are the body of Christ, and all separate members. 28 And God fixed in place in the church, in the highest rank apostles, second in place prophets, third in place teachers, then miracles, next gifts of healings, helpers, directors, and a variety of different tongues. 29 Not everyone is an apostle. Not everyone is a prophet. Not everyone is a teacher. Not everyone performs miracles. 30 Not everyone has the gifts of healing. Not everyone speaks in tongues. Not everyone interprets 31 But you should be passionately desiring the better gifts: and now I am opening your eyes to a far better roadway.
