1 What will we say then? Will we continue in sin, that grace may abound? 2 God forbid. How will we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? 3 Do you not know, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? 4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that just as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of [zoe] life. 5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we will be also [in the likeness] of [his] resurrection: 6 Fully knowing this, that our old humanity has been crucified along with [him], so that the sinful body could be made inactive, and we should no longer be slaves to sin. 7 For someone that has died has been set free from sin. 8 Now if we have died along with Christ, we are fully convinced that we will also be living along with him: 9 Seeing as Christ having been raised from the dead is not subject to death any more; death no longer has any dominion over him. 10 For since he has died to sin once for all: but yet continues to live, he is living to God. 11 In the same way, you should also be counting yourselves as truly dead to sin, but alive to God in Jesus Christ our Lord. 12 Do not allow sin therefore to continually reign in your mortal body, causing you to listen and obey it in its evil desires. 13 Do not even let your bodily members be presented as tools for unrighteousness to sin: but present yourselves to God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your bodily members as tools of righteousness to God. 14 For sin will not dominate you: for you are not under the law, but under grace. 15 What then? will we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. 16 Do you not know, that to whom you yield yourselves in obedience as servants, becomes your master; whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness? 17 But thank God, that although you were servants to sin, you obeyed from the heart the model of teaching that was given to you. 18 Being then made free from sin, you became the servants of righteousness. 19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as you have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity to iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness to holiness. 20 For when you were the servants of sin, you were free from righteousness. 21 What fruit had you then in those things of which you are now ashamed? for the end of those things [is] death. 22 But now having been made free from sin, and having become servants to God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end result everlasting [zoe] life. 23 For the wages of sin [is] death; but the gift of God [is] eternal [zoe] life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
