BibleText:
1 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted and tested by the devil. 2 And after fasting for forty days and forty nights, he became hungry. 3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If you are the Son of God, then speak a command to turn these stones into bread. 4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man will not only live [zoe] on bread but on every [rhema] word that flows out of the mouth of God. 5 Then the devil took him up into the holy city, and got him to stand at the top of the temple, 6 And said to him, If you are the Son of God, cast yourself down: for it has been written, He will give his angels orders concerning you: and in [their] hands they will lift you up, in case you dash your foot against a stone. 7 Jesus said to him, It has been written on the other hand, You are not to put the Lord your God to a test. 8 Once again, the devil took him up into a very high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world, and the magnificence of them; 9 And said to him, I will give you all of these things, if you will bow down and worship me. 10 Then Jesus said to him, Go away, Satan: for it has been written, You will worship the Lord your God, and you will serve Him alone. 11 Then the devil left him, and angels came and took care of him. 12 But when Jesus heard that John had been taken into custody, he returned to Galilee; 13 And leaving Nazareth, he came and lived in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the regions of Zebulon and Naphthali: 14 In order to fulfill what was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying, 15 The land of Zebulun, and the land of Naphtali, on the way to the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles; 16 The people who live in darkness have seen a great light; and to those who live in the region that is shadowed by death light has dawned. 17 From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent [change your mind]: for the kingdom of heaven is near. 18 And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, throwing out a net into the sea: for they were fishermen. 19 And he said to them, Come and follow behind me, and I will make you into fishers of men. 20 And they immediately left [their] nets, and became His disciples. 21 And going on further from there, he saw two more brothers, James [the son] of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, repairing their nets; and he invited them. 22 And they immediately gave up the ship and their father, and became His disciples. 23 And Jesus went around the whole of Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the good news of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people. 24 And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought to him all sick people that were suffering with various different diseases and acute pains, and those who were possessed by demons, and those who were insane, and those that had paralysis; and he healed them. 25 And huge crowds of people followed him from Galilee, and Decapolis, and Jerusalem, and Judaea, and the other side of Jordan.
