BibleText:
1 A man who keeps to himself and seeks only his own desires, goes against all possibilities of success. 2 A fool has no delight in intelligence, but expresses his own ideas instead. 3 When the wicked are brought in, disrespect also enters, as well as shame and disgrace. 4 The words of a man's mouth [are like] deep waters, a fountain of wisdom that gushes forth like a brook. 5 [It is] not good to show favoritism to the wicked and to push aside the innocent when passing judgement. 6 A fool's speech leads to strife, and his mouth invites a beating. 7 A fool's mouth [is] his downfall, and his lips [are] a snare to his soul. 8 The words of a talebearer [are] like delicacies, and they sink down into the inward man. 9 He that is slack in his work is brother to the master of destruction. 10 The name of the LORD [Yahweh] [is] a tower of strength: the righteous runs to it, and is high [above danger]. 11 The wealth of the rich [is] his city of strength, and he imagines it is a high wall [of protection]. 12 When faced with ruin the heart of a man is proud, but there is humility when he is faced with honor. 13 To reject someone's words before hearing them is foolish and an insult to them. 14 A man's spirit will sustain him in sickness; but who can bear a wounded spirit? 15 The heart of the intelligent acquires knowledge; and the ear of the wise listens out for knowledge. 16 The gift that a man gives widens the path that leads him into the presence of great men. 17 The first one to present his case appears right until someone else cross examines him 18 Voting by casting lots puts an end to conflict, separating the mighty. 19 A brother that turns away is like a strong city: his arguments are like the gates of a fortress. 20 The inward man is satisfied by what the mouth produces; the yield of the lips is enough to fully satisfy. 21 Dying and living [are] under the control of the tongue: and those that love [talking] will eat of its produce. 22 [Whoever] finds a wife finds something good, and obtains favor from the LORD [Yahweh]. 23 The poor man speaks in appeals; but the wealthy man responds with strength. 24 A man's companions can be bad for him: but there is a friend [that] clings like a brother.
